About Us

Officer on Patrol

Policing the Square Mile brings with it particular challenges, quite unlike any other policing area within the UK. The City of London is the world’s leading international financial and business centre. It is an area where disruption to ‘business as usual’ would have significant impact on the diverse range of business interests located here.

We are committed to fighting crime at all levels. Although we fulfil a national role tackling fraud and other serious criminality, our local role is no less important to us.

History

Sand timerThere has been some form of policing in the City of London since Roman times. The current City Police Headquarters is built on part of the site of the Roman fortress that probably housed some of the City’s first “police".
