Museum

There has been some form of policing in the City of London since Roman times. The current City Police Headquarters is built on part of the site of the Roman fortress that probably housed some of the City’s first “police".

This sections takes you on a journey back through time looking at some of the key dates in the history of the City of London Police.

Houndsditch Murders

Houndsditch MurdersIn December 1910, the murder of three City of London Police officers and the wounding of two others was, and continues to be, one of the largest multiple murders of police officers on duty carried out in Great Britain.

Olympic Legacy

Olympic Gold MedalThe City of London Police struck gold for Great Britain in the 1908 Olympic Games held in the purpose-built stadium at The White City, Shepherd's Bush. These were the first Olympics to see the now traditional gold, silver and bronze medal awards.

Police Ambulances

Police Ambulance13 May 1907 the City of London Police Ambulance Service came into being. Instead of horses, the service purchased an electrically driven motor ambulance from the Electromobile Company in Mayfair.
