Alcohol Licensing

The city of London has a wide range of diverse License premises ranging from traditional public houses, wine bars, restaurants, nightclubs and exclusive clubs. The city currently has in excess of 700 licensed premises in one square mile offering variety and choice. It is the job of the Licensing team to work with the licensed premises to ensure the safe and healthy running of the premises in accordance with strategy and policy laid down
by the City of London Corporation.

In recent years the nighttime economy of the City of London has boomed and changed beyond all recognition. Gone are the days of empty evening and closed weekend venues. The city now boasts a vibrant and rich choice of venues open all evening and attracts a large group of clientele at the weekends.

This brings its challenges for the Licensing team and requires effective partnership working with all local agencies and most importantly the licensees. The Licensing team monitor the activities of all the premises on a day-to-day basis and follow this up with pro-active operations around the busy times of the week. This allows the team to witness first hand the good work conducted by the staff of the premises throughout the city.
