Commissioner Announces
Retirement
City of London Police has today (July 5) announced his intention
to retire from the police after 30 years service.
The Commissioner will leave the force in six months time, on
January 3 2011. Before this, however, he will lead the force in
working with the City of London’s Police Committee to secure the
best possible financial settlement in the forthcoming Comprehensive
Spending Review, which will determine the force’s funding for the
next three years.
Mr Bowron said today: “I have had the most wonderful 30
years in policing, in a variety of forces but the past eight years
in the City of London have marked the pinnacle of my
career.
“It has been a genuine privilege to lead this force as
Commissioner for the past four years, during what has been a
particularly challenging time for policing."
“I have worked with some exceptional people in the City from
my ACPO team to the very latest recruits, both police and support
staff. I am so proud of what we have achieved, as a team. Crime has
reduced by 40 per cent during that period, City of London Police
has become Lead Force for economic crime and the National Fraud
Intelligence Bureau has been set up."
“Taken as a whole we have become a national asset, returning
amazing dividends on investment. I am confident that others will
see this opportunity and that the force will endure the rough ride
of the next year or two and will come out the other side even
stronger than before”.
