Mini cab clamp down gets results

Officer stops vehicle

Officers working with partner agencies were involved in operations last weekend to identify and prosecute illegal mini-cabs and unfit Hackney Carriages. Four separate locations were visited and two drivers were arrested under suspicion of taxi touting.

During the course of the operation, officers examined 44 private hire vehicles and hackney carriages and found 6 of the private hire vehicles were unfit and a further vehicle was found to have a faulty tyre.

One vehicle was seized when a closer examination found the tax disc was out of date. Officers also checked Private Hire Drivers Licenses. These are, in effect, the driver's permit and they are issued by the Public Carriage office - all drivers should wear these on a lanyard around their neck. Five drivers were not wearing their permits.

City of London Police would like to thank those members of the public who responded to our request for specific areas in the City where illegal mini-cabs were for hire - information we received assisted in the intelligence-led aspect of this operation.
