Every little vote helps
Shoppers at a supermarket in the City are being given a novel
way to show what issues they’d like to see the local police focus
on.
City workers and residents visiting the Tesco store on
Bishopsgate are being given tokens as they queue to pay for their
shopping, which they can drop into ballot boxes marked with
possible force priorities.
The scheme is part of City of London Police’s regular
supermarket surgeries, which give the force the opportunity to
speak with residents who might be too busy to attend community
partnership meetings.
More than 500 shoppers dropped tokens into the ballot box during
the first survey, and security during the World Cup was given as
the area of policing on most people’s minds.
Wards Sergeant, Matt Mountford, said: “The ballot box idea
proved to be very popular. It’s just another way of making sure
we’re tackling the issues that are most important to our local
communities.”
