City of London Police is appealing to the public for information about a jewellery robbery that took place in the City earlier this year.
Haynes Jewellers, on Castle Court, St. Michael's Alley, near Cornhill had around £900,000 stolen during a knifepoint robbery on Wednesday 3 February.
The robbery will be featured in a reconstruction on tonight’s Crimewatch programme, and a £10,000 reward is being offered.
The robbery happened at around 7.20am, after the owner, who is in his sixties, had just opened the shop. He was pushed through the door by two men, threatened with a knife and forced to open the safe. A third man is believed to have acted as a lookout in the street outside the shop.
Amongst the items stolen was a platinum ring with a single Tanzanite stone and two diamonds worth £17,000; a diamond necklace worth £18,500 and a diamond-set white gold bracelet worth £17,950.
All three robbers were dressed as workmen, one in fluorescent jacket and trousers, with their faces partially covered. The men took a taxi from near the jewellers to Tower Hill, where two of the gang left the cab. The third suspect stayed in the taxi and was dropped on Hackney Road at Bethnal Green.
Det Chief Insp Danny Medlycott, who will be appearing on Crimewatch, said: “These men have taken almost a million pounds worth of jewellery by subjecting an innocent shop owner to a terrifying knife-point ordeal. We are asking for the public’s support to find out who the men were, and to bring them to justice.”
Anyone with information about the robbery, or the whereabouts of the stolen jewellery is asked to contact City of London Police on 020 7601 2222 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 1111.
