Jail for man who stabbed neighbour in dispute over partner

A man has been jailed at the Old Bailey after stabbing his neighbour in what police described as a ‘calculated and chilling attack’.

Thomas Coid, 37, from London, was sentenced to five years after taking a knife from his flat and stabbing his neighbour several times. The pair had earlier argued in the street after the neighbour criticised Coid’s partner.

Despite receiving stab wounds to his abdomen, the victim was able to fight off Coid before another neighbour came to his aid and alerted the emergency services.

Shortly afterwards City of London Police officers arrived at the scene and subsequently arrested Coid.

DC John Clifford, of City of London Police’s Major Investigation Team, said: "This was not a heat-of-the-moment flash of aggression, but a calculated attack.

“Thomas Coid had time to consider his actions after arguing in the street, but instead he went back to his flat, took a knife and set about his victim in what was chilling attack.

“Only fortune prevented this being a murder investigation.”

Coid was convicted of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and subsequently sentenced to five years imprisonment on 2 December 2011.
