 Force underlines counter-terrorism work

The threat of terrorism is real and ever-present, and one which those who live and work in London are particularly aware of. The City of London Police continues to work with the Metropolitan Police Service and British Transport Police to protect the Capital.

The current threat level remains unchanged, and is ‘severe’. You can find out more about terrorist threat levels on the Home Office website.

The City of London Police is dedicated to protecting the City, combating any terrorist threat in a number of ways. These include:

  • Comprehensive intelligence gathering, working closely with other agencies, both domestically and internationally.
  • Officers on patrol day and night, monitoring entry-points, protecting the Square Mile and its iconic sights, and supported by the City’s unique CCTV network.
  • Substantive training of the City’s private sector security industry to coordinate efforts to deter and disrupt terrorist activity.
  • Working to increase public vigilance, notably with the Metropolitan Police Service to encourage people to report suspicious activity to the Anti-Terrorism hotline, 0800 789 321.

The force also works to reassure our community, to minimise the insecurity and fear that terrorists and extremists seek to cause.
