Six people appeared before the City of London Magistrates last Friday (Aug 20) charged with being involved in a suspected phoneline fraud.
The five men and one woman were remanded in custody and will appear at Southwark Crown Court on October 19th. They are accused of defrauding O2 and other UK mobile phone network providers out of more than £4.5 million.
Two other men have also been charged, while four suspects remain on police bail.
City of London Police is investigating the alleged international fraud, and has so far made twelve arrests after targeting addresses in London, Essex, the West Midlands and the North East last week.
Between 01/01/2010 and 18/08/2010, within the jurisdiction of the Central Criminal Court, you conspired together with (the above named) and others unknown to defraud O2 and other telephone providers. Contrary to Common Law.
Between 01/01/2010 and 18/08/2010, within the jurisdiction of the Central Criminal Court, you conspired together with other persons to conceal, disguise, convert, transfer or remove criminal property, namely funds in excess of £4.5 million. Contrary to Section 1 of the Criminal Law Act.
All six remanded in custody, to appear at Southwark Crown Court on 19 October.
Between 01/01/2010 and 18/08/2010 within the jurisdiction of the Central Criminal Court you had, in your possession or under your control an article, namely a SIM card, letters and other confidential information, for use in the course of or in connection with fraud. Contrary to Section 6 Fraud Act 2006.
On 18/08/2010 within the jurisdiction of the Central Criminal Court acquired, used or had possessed criminal property, namely in excess of £1000. Contrary to Section 329 of the Proceeds of Crime Act.
Bailed to appear at City of London Magistrates Court on 1 October.
Between 01/06/10 and 19/08/10 at within the jurisdiction of the Central Criminal Court enter into or become concerned in an arrangement which you knew or suspected facilitated the acquisition, retention, use or control of criminal property, namely sixteen hundred pounds, by or on behalf of another person, namely Lorretta Charlton Remanded in custody; court date to be confirmed.
