TV appeal for info on jewellery theft

BBC's Crimewatch programme tonight (24 May) features an appeal for information on the theft of jewellery and watches from City offices in September last year.

The burglary took place just after midnight on Friday 24 September, when police believe two men gained access to an office building at Copthall Avenue, in the centre of the City in London, having disabled the entry system.

The pair then appear to have entered the premises of Ocean Equities Limited, a company based on the ground floor of the building, where they smashed their way into the office and took a large safe. The pair look to then make their getaway in a silver Honda Civic.

The safe contained gold jewellery and watches worth more than £50,000:

  • Piaget Watch (rose gold, leather strap) worth £4,750
  • Piaget Watch (US$ coin design, leather strap) worth £5,000
  • Vacheron Constantin Watch (gold, gold bracelet design) worth £16,000
  • Gerrard Perrigeaux Watch (rose gold, leather strap) worth £8,000
  • Gerrard Perrigeaux Watch (1950s, leather strap) worth £2,500
  • Cartier Tank Watch (gold plate, leather strap) worth £1,500
  • Gold Chain from Mappin & Webb (4oz gold) worth £10,000
  • Gold Chain from Mappin & Webb (2oz gold) worth £5,000

Anyone with information on either the burglary or the whereabouts of the jewellery should contact DC Fiona Roope on 0207 601 2670, or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
