Get your bicycle marked for free this Wednesday

The City has seen a spate of cycle thefts in recent weeks and, in a bid to reduce bicycle thefts and help owners to protect their bikes, the City of London Police will be holding a free bicycle marking event on Wednesday 18 January at Finsbury Avenue, Broadgate Estate.

From 10am until 2pm, members of the force’s Cycle Squad will be in Finsbury Avenue offering a free bicycle marking service and Have Bike will be offering cycle health checks.

A HGV ,provided by construction industry materials supplier Cemex, will also give cyclists the opportunity to sit in the cab to get a driver's view of the road and to understand blindspots around large vehicles.

PCSO Scott Green, one of the officers taking part, said: "The force is committed to seeing a reduction in the number of cyclists killed or seriously injured in the City and the event is a perfect opportunity to ask questions and learn more about some of the hazards of cycling around HGVs. In addition, we would urge owners to get their bikes marked to make them less attractive to potential thieves.”
