PCSOs keep City pubs safe
Published: 23 June 2009
The City of London Police has been working to ensure door staff
at the City’s pubs and clubs are properly licensed.
Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) from the force
carried out more than forty spot checks on door staff to ensure
they had the correct qualification.
The operation, carried out with the Security Industry Authority
(SIA), proved very successful, with all the door staff holding the
necessary license.
Door staff are legally obliged to display their license badge,
which proves they have completed the training to properly carry out
their jobs. Police carry out regular checks on pubs and clubs in
the City, cross-checking the licenses with the SIA’s database.
Inspector Ashlie May headed the operation:
“Door staff play an important role in ensuring the public’s
safety at pubs and clubs – and the fact that all the door staff
spoken to had the license and training needed is certainly
reassuring.
“Maintaining high standards among door staff is a crucial
part of policing the City, and is well suited to the work of PCSOs,
who often have such a good understanding of the communities they
work in.“
