Stars turn out for fundraising
dinner

The UK's only national police children's charity received a
timely boost this week with a fundraising dinner hosted by City of
London Police.
The record-breaking turnout of 630 guests at the black tie event
included former British Lions rugby union star Gareth Chilcott and
Spandau Ballet lead-singer Tony Hadley.
Leading figures from the policing world were also in attendance.
Sir Ronnie Flanagan, former head of Her Majesty's Inspectorate of
Constabulary (HMIC) and a patron of Child Victims of Crime, flew in
from the Middle East to attend the dinner. Sir Hugh Orde, president
of the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) and Metropolitan
Police and City of London Police Commissioners Sir Paul Stephenson
and Mike Bowron were also at the event.

City of London Police Assistant Commissioner Frank Armstrong, a
trustee of the charity, said: "City of London may be the
smallest police force in the country, but we are big-hearted when
it comes to supporting worthwhile causes such as Child Victims of
Crime."
Over the past year, Child Victims of Crime has provided
professional support to 370 children and their families. By the end
of 2009, 64 young victims will have visited Disneyland Florida on
trips organised by the charity.
Child Victims of Crime manager Dominic Chambers said: "With
the tireless support of City of London Police, our charity is
helping young people who fall victims of crime to rebuild their
lives.
"I would particularly like to thank members of the force who
used their contact books to find businesses, top sports clubs and
other organisations willing to donate an array of gifts for the
raffle and charity auction."
This is the seventh consecutive year that City of London Police
has hosted a dinner in support of the charity.
