About Safer City Wards

Safer City Wards is how we have implemented neighbourhood policing in the Square Mile. (Metropolitan Police area will know it as Safer Neighbourhoods (opens in a new window)).

When the Government announced it was changing the way local communities were policed, introducing this neighbourhood-policing approach, most of us in the City felt we had been doing it for centuries.

Here our style of wards policing has made our services very accessible to our communities, and has enabled us to tailor our services to each section of the community.

Adopting the neighbourhood-policing framework, though, goes even further, changing the way our wards teams are structured and extending neighbourhood policing beyond the wards team, beyond the divisions and across the Force. It means working hand in hand with our partners - particularly through our Safer City Partnership to identify the issues that concern the community and then working together to resolve those issues.

In a nutshell, it is putting what the community wants at the heart of what we do and taking into account of the diverse needs of our diverse community by offering people a range of ways to engage with us.
