This is the current Privacy Statement for the City of London Police Web-Site which came in
into effect on the 08th day of September 2004. If this privacy statement changes we will place an updated version on the Website.

Policy and Personal Data
1. The City of London Police will use all reasonable endeavours to ensure that the User’s privacy is protected. When the User contacts the City of London Police, requires information or data or provides information or data the City of London Police will/may require to know the name, delivery address, e-mail address and telephone number. This information allows the City of London Police to forward information and data and notify the User of the status of any appropriate action taken.

2. The City of London Police may ask the User to answer various general questions about themselves including any areas of information in which the User is interested so that appropriate information can be provided.

3. The City of London would like to use the User’s information for the purpose of providing the User with information about any special features of the City of London Police’s Website which is believed may be of interest to the User and for related marketing purposes. However, the User’s information will only be used in this way if the User consents to such use.

In the event that personal data is collected by the City of London Police about the User through their access to this Website such data will be evaluated periodically to determine whether it should continue to hold such data. The User will be notified from time to time [through mailings] of the continued use of personal data and be given the opportunity to notify the City of London Police if the User does not wish data to continue to be held or if such data has changed. For the avoidance of doubt data held for the purposes of criminal investigations is not covered by this provision.

The City of London Police does not intend to export User data outside the European Union (subject to the provisions of Clause 11) and will only be storing the information supplied through this Website together with details of the activities the User has undertaken with the City of London Police and mailings that have been sent

7. Whilst the City of London Police does not sell, trade or rent the User’s personal data to others at present, it may wish to do so in the future with trustworthy third parties. However, the City of London Police will always e-mail the User prior to doing such a thing in order to gain the User’s specific permission to transmit the City of London Police data in such a way.

Statistics
8. The City of London Police may provide aggregate statistics about traffic patterns and related site information to appropriate authorities, Government agencies and other police forces but these will not include any personally identifying information

9. The City of London Police may monitor User traffic on an aggregate basis in order to help it develop and improve the Website for the benefit of all Users.

Security
10. Users are advised that the Internet is not a secure medium. The City of London will use reasonable endeavours to keep User information confidential and store it on a secure server which is password protected and hidden behind a firewall from the outside world. Internal procedures cover the storage access and disclosure of User information. The City of London Police will not sell or pass User information on to any third parties without first obtaining the User’s consent

11. Use of Cookies
The Website uses a cookie in order to gather the statistical information referred to in paragraph 8 above. The cookie is stored on the User’s hard drive and records no information other than a single unique user number to identify return visits to the Website. However, Users can turn off cookies within the internet browser options and still be able to view all the information on the Website.

12. Transmission of Data Outside the EU

8) Personal data should not be transferred outside the European Economic Area (the EU states plus Lichtenstein Iceland and Norway)
