Independent Advisory Group

City of London Police set up an Independent Advisory Group (IAG) after a number of high profile incidents in London.

A number of reports subsequently produced after these incident highlighted the need of a greater link between the Police and the community and the way to achieve this was through the development of an Independent Advisory Group.

An IAG is made up of a diverse group of people independent of the police service from differing communities who monitor, observe and advise on aspects of policing which affect the broader community e.g. the service that is offered.

What does the Independent Advisory Group do?

  • Advise the City of London Police on critical incidents.
  • Advise on City of London Police policy and high impact issues concerning Black and Minority communities e.g. Stop and Search, recruitment and retention of officers.
  • Advise on operational and tactical policing issues.
  • Interact with the community the City of London Police serve to help promote an inclusive approach.
