Pegasus – a police contact scheme for those with a disability or illness

City of London Police has launched a service to make it easier for people with disability or illness to contact the force.

Pegasus is targeted specifically at people who live and/ or work in the Square Mile who find it difficult to communicate when calling police or speaking face-to-face with a police officer.

After registering their personal details on a secure database, including about their disability or illness and how police can best help them, users are issued with a Personal Identification Number (PIN). This enables them to be easily identified by call centre staff and for officers to assist them quickly.

Commissioner Ian Dyson said: "The force is committed to providing a first class service to our unique community. By adopting the Pegasus scheme we have taken a step forward in providing assistance to those who may struggle with communication by enabling them to contact us quickly and easily and for us to respond in a manner which best suits their needs."

Pegasus is to be used for non-emergency calls to the City of London Police, any calls made to the Pegasus number are normally answered within 30 seconds.
