Course Designer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Course Designer to support the Economic Crime Academy Learning and Skills Manager to review, design and develop high quality and effective learning materials and design comprehensive learning programmes including immersive learning.

The Course Designer will liaise with subject matter experts and other stakeholders to ensure learning programmes are designed to a high standard and fulfill the requirements of both the learner and framework for adult learning.

Selection Criteria


  • Skilled in training methods and training techniques including curriculum design principles, adult learning theory and blended learning strategies    
  • Skilled in training design and/or delivering training instruction
  • Demonstrable creativity and innovation in training design
  • Excellent research skills with an attention to detail
  • Excellent administration and organisation skills with an ability to meet strict deadlines and prioritise own workload.
  • Excellent written communication skills in order to write training materials, curriculums and assessments.
  • Excellent oral communication skills in order to discuss the development of learning programmes and learning solutions with subject matters experts and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to influence and indirectly manage across teams.
  • Proven organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • High level of IT skills, including MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel, with the ability to learn new software quickly
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision in a pressurised environment


  • Holds a current course design qualification or equivalent (essential)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of adult learning theories and modern learner principles    
  • Sound knowledge of developing learning programmes
  • Knowledge of the structure and function of police organisations
  • An understanding of Economic Crime and/or fraud


  • Significant experience in a role in a training and development environment which includes curriculum and learning programme design, the development of e-learning and the application of related IT expertise.
  • Experience of designing learning programmes including immersive learning.
  • Proven experience of producing effective training and learning materials (in education or industry).
