Cyber Protect Officer

The primary focus of officers who specialise as Cyber Crime Advisors (CSAs) will be to work with businesses and residents in the Square Mile to better protect these from cyber-crime. Successful candidates will be involved in all areas of cyber security from public briefings to incident responder. In the role as CSA officers will be expected to develop and maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of cyber security on a technical level.

CSA is a challenging and responsible role that sits within the forces Cyber Crime Unit. These posts will primarily require successful candidates to undertake cyber protect work for the unit but the expectation will also be to contribute to the units wider investigation work.

Specifically the CCU undertakes investigations involving:

  • Computer hacking
  • Distributed Denial of Service Attacks & Extortions
  • PBX Fraud
  • Ransomware
  • Malware

Key Areas of Knowledge within Cyber Security

  • Cyber business continuity and recovery planning
  • User training and awareness
  • User education and awareness
  • Network security
  • Malware identification and prevention
  • Removable media controls and physical security
  • Secure configuration and security policy
  • Incident response and management
  • Hacking

The Following skills and abilities are required for the role:

Essential Criteria

  • Must have a strong aptitude for self-directed learning. This role will involve considerable study of technical material both in and outside of working hours
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills supported by a high standard of communication skills, both verbal and written levels including ability to convey technical matters to a non-technical audience
  • Must be enthusiastic and be able to operate under pressure dealing with risk and serious and complex cases
  • Must have the ability to manage a workload in a calm, efficient and organised manner
  • Must be able to engage with colleagues, partners and victims in a sensitive, patient and impartial manner

Desirable Criteria

  • An understanding of the Computer Misuse Act
  • Working knowledge in the field of Cyber Security
  • Working knowledge of IT

The post requires SC vetting status.
