Police Constable - National Coordination Office

​On behalf of the National Lead Force, the NCO is responsible for improving the national police response to economic crime and fraud. Our vision is for every police force and regional collaboration in England and Wales to have an effective and appropriate response to countering economic crime and fraud.

The role holder will be responsible for supporting the National Coordinator in developing and delivering strategic objectives in furtherance of the NCO vision. This will include:

  • Promoting the role of the National Lead Force (NLF) and co-ordinating NLF messaging to the law enforcement community and stakeholders.
  • Developing and promoting consistent service delivery models that are locally adaptable and aligned to the National Policing Vision 2025.
  • Identifying and engaging with stakeholders on policy, regulation and legislation to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the policing response.
  • Identifying, developing and sharing good practice.
  • Working with government departments and partners to monitor the effectiveness of NCO activity.


Specific functions will include but are not limited to:

  • Identifying and developing opportunities to achieve the NCO vision.
  • Preparing and delivering briefings for staff at all levels within the policing family and additionally to external stakeholders where required.
  • Attending meetings, conferences and similar events either to promote NCO functions or to gain knowledge of value to the NCO/the wider law enforcement community.
  • Facilitating and hosting meetings, conferences or similar events in furtherance of NCO objectives.
  • Developing, conducting and debriefing force/ROCU engagements in furtherance of the NCO strategic objectives.
  • Developing documents and products which explain or promote NCO functions/strategy.
  • In conjunction with the NCO secretariat, developing administrative procedures for NCO functions which ensure that workstreams are documented, managed and assessed.
  • In addition to the above the role holder will also support the National Coordinator in developing strategy and action to support National Policing Portfolios relating to Identity Crime, Counterfeit Currency and Illicit Trade.

Skills, knowledge and experience

  • Willing and able to work unsupervised and to take responsibility and ownership for specific work streams.
  • Tactful, diplomatic and able to engage effectively with senior stakeholders either in person or in writing.
  • Self-motivated and organised.
  • Computer literacy and the ability to design or commission presentational products which illustrate or promote NCO functions.
  • The role holder will be expected to develop a thorough understanding of Policing’s role in tackling economic crime and fraud including a strategic awareness of the wider context in which Policing is conducted in England and Wales.

Key result areas

  • Work completed on time and to an acceptable standard.
  • Timescales and outputs for NCO activity understood and clearly articulated.
  • Force/ROCU visit documentation (both pre and post visit) prepared on time and to a high standard.

Working hours/Location

  • Standard 40hr week. No specific working hours however the role holder will be required to travel nationally with overnight stays and a degree of a flexibility will be required in order to achieve this. 
  • For City of London staff the role holder will be based at Guildhall Yard East. This post is also suitable for secondees who may work remotely from their home force area but must be willing to travel to London regularly.
