Police Driving Instructor and Assessor (Part-time)

Applications are invited from police staff who wish to be considered for the position of Police Driving Instructor (Part-time, 2 weeks per month), Learning and Development.

In this role you will be developing the planning, preparation and delivery of courses and training packages within the Force Training Plan and as directed by the Head of Force Training. As a Driving Instructor you will work very closely as part of a small team of Instructors, having supervisory, motivational and developmental responsibilities for the various driving courses delivered. The post also requires the successful candidates to provide police officers and police support staff with instruction and practical demonstrations of police driving techniques, from Class A to BDA, within the framework of Roadcraft, the police driving manual and the College of Policing Model. To give instruction on specialist training, such as pursuit management, emergency response, personnel carriers and convoy escorting or as directed.

Applicants will undergo an on road assessment where they will be required to demonstrate retention of their driving skills. They will have to pass both Roadcraft and Highway Code theory checks.

You will be responsible for the preparation, design and delivery of all aspects of Police driver training, including updating curriculum documents, learning outcomes and training documentation.

Promoting and developing the Learning and Development will be part of your role and you will need to have extensive knowledge of Road Craft, Highway Code, any relevant APP’s, Force Policies and legislation.

You will have excellent communication and presentation skills and will possess a relevant and recognised training qualification or be willing to attain such a qualification.

Essential:

  • Must possess a clean full driving licence, incorporating the categories B, BE, C1, C1E, D1, D1E, f,k,l,n,p.
  • High class advanced police driver for more than three years.
  • Effective oral and written skills.
  • The ability to accurately assess competency and to ensure force requirements are met.
  • Ability to achieve a training qualification.
  • Ability to achieve an assessor qualification.

Desirable:

  •  Training qualifications.
  •  Assessor qualification.
  •  Successful completion of an Instructors course.

The criteria for the interview process will be structured around the Policing Professional Framework (PPF) testing candidates against the Personal Qualities contained within the PPF profile.
