Superintendent and Detective Superintendent – Promotion and Selection Boards

Applications are invited from substantive Superintendents and eligible Chief Inspectors to join the City of London Police as a Superintendent/Detective Superintendent.

The City of London is the historic heart of London sitting at the centre of the 32 London boroughs, packed with history, commercial activity and culture.

The City of London has a demographic profile which is not replicated anywhere else: a residential population of around 11,000 that increases daily to in excess of 400,000 as commuters arrive at their place of work. In addition, tens of thousands of people cross the City every day and many other thousands visit as tourists.

The City is the historic core from which London grew and is one of the most archaeologically important areas in Britain. It has both a rich legacy of historic buildings and areas and a large number of iconic sites including St Paul’s, the Bank of England, the Royal Exchange, and the Gherkin.

As an influential leader, you will work to enhance the professional development and performance of the force and ensure it achieves its vision and delivers its policing priorities.

You should have experience of developing and co-ordinating operational policing strategies in the areas of crime reduction, prevention or longer term investigation and intelligence. Together with good leadership skills and a focus on strategic perspectives, problem solving and partnership working, you should be passionate about leading by example, professional service delivery and have a desire for continual improvement.

City of London Police operate a 24/7 Duty Superintendent System, therefore all Superintendents will be required to undertake this function as part of their role.

  • Competency based Application Form
    • Shortlist Panel – the short listing panel will assess your ability to demonstrate competence against Competency Values Framework (CVF).
    • Selection Panel- candidates that are short listed to attend interview will be assessed through the following:
      • Operational Assessment: the preparation and delivery of a presentation will assess the candidates’ ability to deal with operational issues at Superintendent level.
      • Strategic Assessment: a competency based interview against the Competency Values Framework.
