Uniform and Detective Inspectors – Promotion and Selection Boards

Applications are invited from substantive Inspectors and Detective Inspectors as well as uniform and detective Sergeants who are ready and qualified for promotion to Inspector (Those applying must hold either a valid pass for Part 1 OSPRE, Part 1 and 2 OSPRE or NPPF Legal Examination).

The challenges of policing the Square Mile are unique. The City of London is the world’s leading international financial and business centre. Disruption to ‘business as usual’ has profound consequences. As an Inspector or Detective Inspector with the City of London Police, you will lead appropriate policing actions by example.

You will focus on making sure the right resources are available, so that our response to any situation is always effective and appropriate. What’s more, you will proactively help to enhance the professional development and performance of the force. You will influence the achievement of our vision through leadership and demonstrating our values and policing priorities.

To be equal to the challenge, you’ll need to demonstrate excellent leadership skills and a strong focus on problem solving and innovative thinking, together with a passion for leading by example and high quality service delivery. We are looking for the best candidates to help shape the future of City of London Police.

Please note that we currently have a number of Uniform Inspectors roles vacant, with very few Detective vacancies at this rank; therefore we are looking to hold a select list for the coming 18 – 24 months to post officers into roles as and when they become available. All officers applying for this role will be expected to undertake Tactical Firearms Command (TFC) Training, Public order Training or SECCO regardless of role. In the event that there is no place on a particular course, you would be expected to undertake one of the others.

You will be assessed against the Competency Values Framework, below you will find the link to the Police Professional Profile for Inspector which details the key accountabilities, skills and knowledge required for the rank as well as the Competencies and level being assessed.
