Police Community Support Officer

Police Community Support Officers – men and women who thrive on challenges and who are willing to go the extra mile. In this role you work with and support your officer colleagues and you have the opportunity to work closely with the City of London’s business and residential communities.

As a PCSO you'll be on the front line working alongside police officers, providing a visible presence on the City streets. You will be assigned to a particular area, where you will get to know the local community and become involved in gathering intelligence and providing reassurance.

PCSOs also take crime reports, statements, issue certain fixed penalty notices and are the eyes and ears of their police colleagues. Training lasts for 11 weeks. Your training will consist of law input, practical exercises and a tutored phase working alongside a police officer on the Professional Development Unit.

Some of the powers:

  • Detain an offender for up to 30 minutes until police assistance arrives
  • Confiscate alcohol, cigarettes and tobacco from young persons
  • Seize vehicles used to cause harassment alarm and distress
  • Issue fixed penalty notices for dog fouling, litter, cycling on footpath, graffiti and fly-posting.
