Community Scrutiny Group

What is the Community Scrutiny Group?

The Community Scrutiny Group is made up of representatives of the community including those who live or work here in the Square Mile.

What role does it play?

Independent of the police, the group can ask questions related to the policing of the City, hold the force to account and challenge the way the City of London Police operates.

Why are the City of London Police doing this?

We want to go further for our community and the City of London residents. Community Scrutiny Groups help us to be more effective by learning from your views and experiences.

One of the most powerful ways to make a change, is to be part of it.

Why should I join?

You will gain insight into how policing decisions are made and have the opportunity to review data for police activity in your neighbourhood. You will act as a critical friend to help the police and gain a level of understanding of how we conduct Stop and Search, whilst developing your own community engagement skills.

What commitment is required?

Meetings are quarterly and last around two hours. Regular and Youth members are required to commit for at least a year and attend all meetings & training or you are free to commit as much time as you can as a Walk-in-Member.

Types of membership

Regular Members

Vetting is required and training will be provided to enable members to manage and run the group.

Walk-in-Members

Individuals who are unable to commit to being a Regular or Youth member but can attend on an ad hoc basis and contribute to discussions.

Youth Members

Part of the Youth Community Scrutiny Group (managed by the community youth members aged 14 years to 18 years). Meetings held outside of educational commitments (dates decided by members, in conjunction with the City of London Police). Being part of the Youth Community Scrutiny Group will help you to develop new skills.
