An accelerated misconduct hearing has concluded that Former Officer A, a former police officer at the City of London Police, did breach standards of professional behaviour.
The former officer was arrested on the 2 February 2024 and pleaded guilty to criminal offences relating to making indecent and prohibited images of children on the 2 September 2024. They were sentenced on the 8 May 2025 to a Community Rehabilitation Order and required to sign the Sex Offenders Register for five years.
The misconduct panel made the finding that their offences and criminal conviction amounted to gross misconduct.
A decision to grant the former officer, known as Former Officer A, anonymity was based on Police Conduct Regulation, Reg 39.
Chief Superintendent Sanjay Andersen, Head of Professionalism and Trust, City of London Police said:
“The nature of this crime has no place in society. Our thoughts are and will always be with the victims of abuse.
“Our police officers and staff work tirelessly to uphold the professional standards we expect. The officer pleaded guilty to crimes that fall far below those expectations.
“The officer was suspended immediately when we were notified of the arrest. Following the outcome of the accelerated misconduct hearing, the former officer will be placed on the barred list.
“The officer resigned from the force in 2024.
“The criminal investigation was carried out and brought to court by the Metropolitan Police Service.”
Had Former Officer A still been a serving officer, they would have been dismissed.
The outcome of the hearing will mean that they are added to the police barred list, which will prevent them from re-entering the police service or joining other policing bodies.
