A gross misconduct hearing has concluded that Former Officer Daniel John, a former police officer at the City of London Police, did breach standards of professional behaviour.
It was found proven that former PC John met a woman at a hotel that he knew, or ought to have known, was a sex worker with the purpose of acquiring her services as a sex worker. This is a serious breach of the professional standards of Discreditable Conduct, amounting to gross misconduct. The allegation that he proceeded to have sexual relations with the woman in question was not proven.
Former PC John served with the City of London Police from 2023 until 30 September 2025 following his resignation. He had previously served with Hertfordshire Constabulary.
Detective Superintendent Thomas Hill, Head of Professional Standards Department at the City of London Police, said:
“The police play a vital role in protecting individuals who are at heightened risk of violence and exploitation. Employing the services of sex workers is a serious deviation from that duty and is a breach of public trust.
“Former PC John would have been fully aware that he was acting in clear violation of his obligations to safeguard the public. His conduct was wholly unacceptable and fell significantly short of the standards expected by the organisation and the public. Had he been still a serving officer he would have been dismissed and he will be placed on the barred list.”
