This evening, we were informed of the death of Her Majesty the Queen.
During this time of great sadness, we will continue to serve with pride and dignity, as the nation, and indeed the world, mourns the loss of our longest-serving monarch.
Commissioner Angela McLaren said:
“All police officers at the start of their careers declare that they will ‘well and truly serve the Queen in the office of constable’.
“This is a fundamental cornerstone of British policing, and something that I and everyone else at the City of London Police have been honoured to do over the years.
“Throughout her 70-year reign, we were proud to serve Her Majesty and to keep her and other members of the Royal Family safe and secure as they carried out their duties in the City of London.
“We were always greeted with a smile or warm words and, for us all, it is very special indeed to know that our work was so greatly appreciated by Her Majesty and the rest of the Royal Family.”
Over the coming hours and days, we will work with our partners across London to ensure those visiting the capital to pay their respects to Her Majesty can do so safely and securely.
