A man who pleaded guilty to possessing Class A drugs with intent to supply has been sentenced to two years in jail.
Andrei Gherghe, 36, of Abbey Street, Newham, London, was sentenced at Inner London Crown Court.
On 11 October 2024, officers from the Targeted Intercept and Tactical ANPR team (TITAN) carried out a search of a vehicle Gherghe was driving, after he was spotted acting suspiciously on Eastcheap.
A police dog indicated that something suspicious was behind the centre console armrest. Police search advisors went on to find a large quantity of drugs with a street value of around £6,000, inside the centre console armrest. This included cocaine, magic mushrooms, LSD and MDMA.
Officers discovered that the flooring of the centre console was hinged, with an electromagnetic lock which allowed the flooring to be lifted and this was where the drugs were hidden.
During the search a lock knife was also discovered.
Detective Constable Emma Martin, at the Criminal Investigation Department of the City of London Police, said:
“We will do everything we can to disrupt and stop drugs supply in the City of London, which cause so much harm in our communities.
“City of London Police officers will proactively target offenders and this sentencing should be a warning to those involved in drug dealing, you will be arrested, charged and sent to prison.”
In court, Gherghe also pleaded guilty to possession of an article with blade or point in a public place, possession of Class B drugs, driving without third party insurance and driving whilst disqualified.
Gherghe was sentenced to two years in prison and has been disqualified from driving for two years.
