A former City of London Police Officer has been sentenced at Kingston Crown Court to three years and seven months for burglary and harassment.
Christopher Trowton, 39, of Armytage Road, Budleigh Salterton, Devon, while off duty, committed a burglary in Hampshire on 19 May 2022 and stole £50,000 in cash. He subsequently resigned from the force before the allegations were reported, his last day of service was the 27 June 2022. He also pled guilty to harassment against a former partner.
Trowton was arrested by the Metropolitan Police on 10 August 2022 and charged two days later.
Detective Superintendent Carly Humphreys, Head of Professional Standards Department at the City of London Police, said:
“Trowton was fully aware that his actions were unlawful, morally reprehensible and put fear into his victims. He was a serving police officer at the time of his offences, and his disgraceful criminal behaviour has undoubtedly affected trust and confidence in policing.
“An accelerated misconduct hearing will take place at the earliest available opportunity, and he will be placed on the barred list.”
Trowton was handed 43 months for the burglary and 21 weeks for the harassment charge to run concurrently. He was also given a restraining order against his harassment victim.
