The City of London Police is organising a Safer Business Action (SaBa) Day on Thursday 23 March, involving a range of operational and engagement activities. The day will aim to detect criminal activities and educate those living, visiting and working in the City about how to help prevent crime. Safer Business Action (SaBA) Day is supported by the National Business Crime Centre (NBCC) and City of London Police Authority Board (CoLPAB). It is a joint approach by police, business, private security, the Business Crime Reduction Partnerships (BCRPs) and Business Improvement Districts (BIDs), working in partnership to focus resources into a designated location to create a significant impact on reducing crime. City of London Police Assistant Commissioner Paul Betts said: “The City of London is the world’s premier financial and business centre, we want to ensure everyone working in, living in or visiting the City is safe and feels safe. Our business community is diverse and extends over several hundred types of business, ranging from local supermarkets and high street retailers, to legal firms and banks. “This operation engages with businesses, giving them vital tools to help prevent crime and keep their employees safe. Our targeted activity will aim to lower business-related crimes and strengthen our ties with our partners and our community.” There will be vehicle check points, with a focus on road safety, engagement and ANPR targeting of vehicles with crime markers. Two engagement hubs will be set up, one at New Change and one at Cheapside, where officers will engage with the public to raise awareness of crime prevention. Officers will visit businesses in the area, contacting security and management to build new contacts and relationships. Specialist officers from the Cyber Griffin team will meet with key individuals from the business community, to provide crime prevention advice and create new opportunities for joint working. There will also be a focus on anti-social behaviour issues raised by the business community. Police officers will focus on business crime, burglary and retail crime. There will also be patrols to licensed premises to engage with the public and door staff. A dedicated team of officers and volunteers will be on hand to help revellers get home safely. This is part of Operation Reframe, a strategy aimed at fighting violence and sexual harassment against women and girls during the night-time economy. Chair of the City of London Police Authority Board, James Thomson, said: “The Square Mile is the world’s leading financial centre, home to 8,000 residents, and supporting 587,000 workers. “We want to maintain the City’s competitiveness on the international stage by ensuring it stays the safest place to do business. “That means making sure that Square Mile businesses face fewer risks, and that residents and workers feel secure. “That’s why we support the City of London Police as the leading specialist agency for protective security, and the National Lead Force for tackling fraud and economic crime.”
