An accelerated misconduct hearing has concluded that former Special Police Constable Chi Leung Peter Wai did breach standards of conduct.
Former Special Constable Wai was convicted at Crown Court of serious criminal offences (Assisting a Foreign Intelligence Service and Misconduct in a Public Office) and received a 10-year custodial sentence.
During the commission of these offences, Wai had in his possession a counterfeit City of London Police warrant card falsely showing him to be a senior police officer of Superintendent rank.
Detective Superintendent Thomas Hill, Head of Professional Standards Department at the City of London Police, said:
“Former Special Constable Wai’s conviction for serious criminal offences against the National Security Act 2023 and Misconduct in a Public Office badly hurts trust and confidence in policing.
“Special Constables are entrusted with significant responsibilities and expected to demonstrate the highest standards of integrity and honesty. Wai breached those values and will rightly spend time in jail for those crimes. He had already resigned as a Special Constable and will be placed on the Police Barred List.”
